There are two types of FlashPros - 'Race FlashPro' and the 'CARB FlashPro'. The Race FlashPro allows any calibration to be uploaded to a vehicle, whereas the CARB FlashPro only allows uploads from calibrations which are determined to not alter the any emissions related parameters in the ECU.
You can tell what type of FlashPro you have in the FlashPro tab of the FlashPro window:
The calibration type can be determined from the Calibration window under 'Calibration'.
Non CARB calibration
|•||CARB FlashPros are designed for use within the USA. CARB calibrations may be used by any FlashPro|
|•||The Carb FlashPro is the EO number D-742-1, which allows the Carb FlashPro to be used on street vehicles within the USA.|
|•||Within the USA Race FlashPros are legal only for racing vehicles which may never be used upon a public highway.|
|•||'CARB' is the common term for the California Air Resources Board, who are responsible for determining if calibrations could affect emissions.|
|•||Why California Air Resources Board for the whole USA? Under the federal Clean Air Act administered by the EPA it is not legal to change any emissions equipment (including the ECU) on any emissions controlled vehicle. There is no mechanism to prove to the EPA that an ECU modification does not affect emissions, but the EPA will accept the California Air Resources Board approval. Hence California legal modifications are also federally legal.|
|•||Even if your state / location does not do emissions tests, you still must comply with the Clean Air Act. The concept of '49 state legal' is not longer valid.|
