    KPro 05-06 RSX

    KPro 05-06 RSX

    This is a Hondata modified 2002-2004 RSX ECU and an adapter harness for the 05-06 RSX Hondata makes hardware modifications to the 2002-2004 ECU enable it to work with the different sensors and actuators found on the 2005-2006 ECU. After these modifications the ECU will not function correctly on a 2002-2004 RSX. Hondata only sells adapter harness with the modified ECU. An unmodified 02-04 ECU with adapter harness (with or without KPro) will not work on a 05-06 RSX without the internal ECU modifications performed by Hondata. Engine swaps using an 05-06 RSX engine and gearbox into another chassis are not supported with the 05/06 K-Pro and adapter harness. The correct method is here: Hyperlink to: http://hondata.com/techk20transmissions.html Application Notes An primary oxygen sensor from the 02-04 RSX or 02-05 Civic Si must be used.  The 05-06 RSX O2 sensor will not work. Some sensors must be disabled to eliminate errors generated by the ECU. The speed sensor spins about 100 times faster on the 05/06 RSX gearbox as compared to the 02-04 RSX. Above 65-70 MPH cruise control may not function smoothly and may cancel from time to time. Also see Tech - K20 Transmissions Which Donor  ECU can I use? Only the following ECUs can be used. 2002-2004 RSX Type S (PRB A03-A08, PRB-305 ECU).  Should be used for a Type S 2002-2004 RSX (Base 5 speed) (PND -A0# ECU) Should be used for a Base The stock 2005-2006 ECU part number PRB-A13 through PRB-A16 has a different microprocessor and cannot have a K-Pro installed. Adapter Harnesses These are the only harnesses that are guaranteed to work with the 05/06 K-Pro. These adapter harnesses are sold only with an 05-06 RSX-K-Pro. Identification:  - Blue Wire  - Sticker stating 05/06 Adapter (some adapters may not have stickers)  - Three white plugs or  - Two white plugs and a grey plug (from about June 2007) If you are are having problems you may have a counterfeit adapter harness.  To verify if you have a genuine adapter harness, contact Hondata with the serial number of your K-Pro. Tuning the 05-06 RSX The 05 ECU was replaced with a jumper harness and 04 ECU with K-Pro and then tuned. In the example below the 05 RSX was equipped with a cold air intake. The only change was from stock ECU (yellow line) to K-Pro + tuning (blue line). Points of interest VTEC was set at 4600 rpm 18 ft pounds torque gain at 2000 rpm 15 ft pounds gain at 5800 rpm and at 8000 rpm 16 hp peak gain, but 20 hp gain at 5800 and 8000 rpm Comments: This engine responds better to tuning than the K20A2, probably due to the better cams and the fact that the stock ECU runs so rich at the top end. A race header, with tuning will provide a significant increase in the mid range and top end torque. Cams We have cross referenced the 05 RSX intake and exhaust camshaft part numbers with those available for Japanese ITR. The Japanese part numbers for the ITR intake cams are: 14110-PRC-000 14110-PRC-010 14110-PRC-020 This is because there have been three revisions of the engine. The US part numbers for the 05 cams are: 14110-PRC-030 (intake) 14120-PRC-030 (exhaust) It is therefore our assumption that the cams in the 05 RSX are the Japanese ITR cams, which have the same lift but more duration than the PRB cams.     KPro D17

    KPro D17

    2001-2005 D17 Civic DX, LX, HX & EX Manual transmission only (US vehicles only) The K-Pro for the D17 consists of a hardware modification to a donor K-Series ECU, a specially modified cam timing wheel, plus Windows software which allows you to re-program the ECU and datalog sensors. To order, fill out this form and contact a Hondata dealer. Turn around time is usually 2 days from the time the ECU is received by Hondata. Warning Within the USA this product is legal only for racing vehicles which may never be used upon a public highway. Application Notes The stock D17 ECU cannot be converted to a programmable ECU. A new RSX-S ECU or donor ECU must be used. The Hondata adjustable cam pulley has specially modified timing teeth. The stock timing wheel will not work. The Civic HX and all 2004-2005 Civics use a wideband 02 sensor compatible with the K-Pro. Base maps are included for a stock D17 non VTEC Civic and a D17 non VTEC turbo. The K-Pro ECU will not work on automatic D17 Civics. Any K-Pro used on a 2002-2004 RSX-S will work provided the Hondata cam gear is used. Donor ECUs ECUs for the D17 may be sourced from the following vehicles 2002-2004 RSX Base 5 speed (PND -A0 ECU) 2002-2004 RSX Type S 6 speed  (PRB-A0 - ECU) 2002-2004 CRV 5 speed (PPA-A0 ECU) 2002-2005 Japanese DC5 Integra Type R (PRC ECU) 2003-2005 Japanese Civic Type R (PRD ECU) 2002-2005 Civic Si (PNF ECU) General Notes All 2004-2005 Civics and the 2001-2003 Civic HX use a compatible wideband 02 sensor. Two wires need to be moved for rear O2 operation. The 2001-2003 Civic DX, LX & EX Civics use a narrowband 02 sensor. Two wires need to be moved for closed loop operation. If you plan a K engine swap, install the appropriate engine harness and switch on VTC in the KManager software. Tables may be map-traced in real time. The K-Pro ECU is not real-time updateable, however most changes to tables and settings can be uploaded in 1-2 seconds via USB. Most OBDII features may be disabled for race vehicles. The D17 knock sensor is incompatible with the K-Pro and must be disabled in the KManager software. Error codes and the OBDII readiness status may be datalogged. The K-Pro ECU can be matched to the Civic immobilizer system. See here for details. For training materials see here. Installation The adjustable cam pulley is shaped differently than stock. You will need to remove the power steering pump and alternator and loosen the engine mount. Removing the stock ECU is fairly involved. There are three choices for the K-Pro installation: The K-Pro can be installed in the location of the stock ECU. The K-Pro circuitry can be installed into the Civic's stock ECU case. You will need to cut a USB hole. The K-Pro ECU can be installed in the glove compartment. You may need to cut the rear plastic. 2004-2005 DX/LX/EX & 2001-2005 HX installation For the Civics that use a wideband sensor you need to move two wires to activate the rear O2 sensor. If you have OBD 2 disabled and do not need to use the secondary O2 then it is not necessary to move the wires.   2001-2003 DX/LX/EX installation These Civics have a narrowband O2 sensor. The donor US ECUs (see above) are designed to run by default with a wideband front O2 sensor. So we use a European PRA calibration, which is designed to run with a front and rear narrowband O2 sensor, feed the voltage from the Civic's front O2 sensor into the K-Pro's rear O2 sensor input, and alter the K-Manager software to run closed loop from the secondary O2 input.     KPro S2000

    KPro S2000

    This is a specially adapted ECU which allows the 2000-2005 S2000 to run from a RSX ECU. The engine crank and cam sensors must be changed to equivalent 2006-2007 parts - see below. The S2000 KPro includes a new or user supplied RSX (PRB) ECU adapted for the S2000, and a wiring harness for the crank and cam sensors. It does not include the Honda parts - see mechanical modifications below.  All user supplied ECUs must be PRB A01-A12 and in perfect working order.  We will not use any other ECUs for the S2000. See the K-Pro page for more information. Mechanical modifications The following items must be replaced before the S2000 K-Pro can be used. These parts are not supplied by Hondata and should be purchased from a Honda dealer. Crank sensor 37500-PZX-003 Crank wheel 13622-PCX-013 TDC sensor 37510-PZX-003 TDC wheel 14112-PCX-003 Valve cover 12310-PCX-020 Drain plug washer (for PCV valve) 94109-14000 PCV valve 17130-PCX-003 IAT sensor 37880-P05-A00 (not required, but stock IAT will read about 30 degrees hotter) The approximate cost of these parts is $300-375. Swapping the parts is relatively straight forward. Refer to the Helm manual for more information, but in brief you will need to: Remove the accessory belt. Remove the water pump pulley. Remove the crank pulley. Remove the front timing cover. Remove and replace the crank timing wheel. Remove and replace the crank sensor in the timing cover, and reinstall the timing cover. Remove old wiring to crank sensor. Install wiring harness from crank sensor to ECU. Reinstall water pump pulley and accessory belt. Remove the valve cover. Remove and replace the TDC sensor wheel (exhaust cam). Install the new TDC sensor and PCV valve in the new timing cover, and install the new valve cover. Remove S2000 ECU. Install the wiring harness through the firewall underneath the clutch master cylinder. If you have cut the wiring rubber boot, seal it with silicone sealer. Install the RSX ECU. As a bonus your will find that your brand new valve cover is not dirty and has no oil stains. User Testimonial S2000 K-Pro Upgrade Once the K-Pro was up and running on my daily driven street car, tuning was a snap.  The high resolution maps on the K-Pro allowed us to quickly resolve any fuel and timing issues, particularly those caused by our cold air intake and its attendant intake resonance peaks.  Of particular interest to me were the additional features offered such as gear dependent ignition timing and fuel trims.  These are critical on the S2000 for getting snappy low gear response while remaining safe under extended duration heavy loads in high gear.  The acceleration fueling and timing functions are also wonderful. Because they use the existing Honda algorithms, tweaking these areas is as simple as altering one or two variables. Shawn Church p.s. - The startup is like stock.  That is something I am not used to on standalone ECU systems for S2000s. Notes Immobilizer. The S2000 immobilizer is not supported. Water Temperature. The S2000 dash water temperature display functions as per normal. For an AP1 the second segment normally lights at 145 degrees F, and the third at 165 degrees F. Air Conditioning. In KManager you will need to select 'Use alternate AC switch input'. No wiring changes need to be made. Idle up and enrichment is as per the stock ECU. Closed loop.  The RSX ECU will run in closed loop using the S2000 primary oxygen sensor. Due to the RSX ECU normally using a wide band oxygen sensor, in KManager you use select 'Use Secondary Oxygen Sensor for Primary' (don't panic - the ECU is actually running off the S2000 primary oxygen sensor, which has been routed through the RSX ECU as the secondary oxygen sensor).  Using a wideband RSX oxygen sensor is not recommended because the oxygen sensor is expensive (as much as an aftermarket wideband) and substantial re-wiring is required. The ECU can datalog aftermarket wideband controller which output a analog voltage (via the ELD input). KManager Configuration.  The following parameters should be used in KManager: Use only PRA ECU calibrations (PRA ECUs are the only ECUs which support a narrowband primary oxygen sensor). Disable the immobilizer. Disable VTC. Disable the multiplexer. Select 'Use alternate AC switch input'. Select 'Use Secondary Oxygen Sensor for Primary'. OBDII Scan tools.  OBDII scan tools work normally. 2006-2007 S2000. The RSX ECU is not compatible with the 06-07 drive by wire, so the S2000 K-Pro cannot be used. Sorry. User Supplied ECUs. User supplied ECUs must be checked before sending to Hondata. Any damaged or faulty ECUs will incur a processing cost. ECU Mounting. The ECU is the approximate size and shape of the S2000 ECU, and is located with the same orientation as the S2000 ECU, however it does not have the mounting holes in the same location. A mounting bracket is supplied to mount the ECU in the stock location. Note that this photo is from a hand made prototype - the finished bracket will be laser cut.
