Getting knock on E85

Post by jkendall559 »

I'm hoping someone can help! I wasn't getting any knock on 91 octane but notice knock almost always around 5-7psi and in the 5-7k rpm range. I have a quick log attached where it shows 1 count of knock. It will normally show 2 or 3 counts of knock on each pull. The car is flex fuel and I notice it doesn't matter what percentage of ethanol is in the tank. I have it adding up to 3 degrees but haven't ever found a station to get anywhere near E85.
Is it running too rich while on the E85? Is the timing to advanced? Is the motor just making noise?
Thank you in advance.

Have you tried retarding the ignition where you get knock?

Yes, total of 2 degrees so far. It didn't have knock on 91 octane and it's only set to add 1.5 degrees at that RPM range. So now it has less timing on E85 than it did on 91 and it's getting a knock. It's always in that same range, 5-8 psi. and 5-6k RPM

If you are only getting one knock like in the datalog, I would not worry too much about it.
