Hello! So I know I did say I wasn’t doing exhaust and that was my true plan but the sound was unbelievably loud and I ended up getting a steal from a friend so I threw on a cat back today when I got back in town. Are we ok to continue where we are at in the process of cam angles? I apologize if it seems like I wasted your time tuning prior to installing exhaust

That's no big deal. Do us a favor though, go back to Rev04 and make a datalog with a clean third gear pull now with the exhaust. That way I have that data for the final cam angle mapping.

No problem. It looks really good. We will now go to the 40* cam angle with vtec at 5500. For these next couple datalogs, they can be ten minutes in length. Just be sure to get a clean third gear WOT pull.

Looks good. We'll do another one on the 40* cam angle now with vtec at 4000. Same thing for this one, ten minutes is fine with the clean third gear WOT pull.

Looks good. So we are done locking cam angles, I've gone ahead and blended out the cam angle map for the low cam, for the high cam I am going to set it at 45* to see how much of that table it likes. Take this one for another ten minute datalog so we can get that 45* cam angle data, then I will finish blending it out. This will be a good glimpse at the overall product, but after this datalog it will be pretty much set for cam angle mapping. Vtec is again at 4000 for this one.

Yeah it looks really good, your car seems to be pretty strong. It likes quite a bit of cam angle up top which is nice. So I've got everything blended out now, take this one for a spin when you can and feel free to have some fun with it, it's plenty safe. Go back to twenty minute datalogs, and at least one third gear WOT pull. But feel free to drive it however you want otherwise, then we'll see how it looks. The vtec rpm has a pretty wide range of options, I set the low threshold at 4100. So how that works and what you think with it there, we can go up or down a few hundred rpm, and we can try different rpms too. But see what you think.

Its definitely feeling strong! Heres 2 today with that calibration, the first has the third gear pull. I believe im liking the 4100 for vtec though i dont think id lower it any.

Yeah it looks really good. I made a couple small adjustments, but it's very close. Take this one for a spin when you can, same datalog and driving style. And we'll leave vtec at 4100 based on your feedback. As you probably already know, vtec will only kick in at 4100 when you're near WOT. If you drive past 4100 at part throttle it won't turn on vtec. Play with that some and make sure you're good with it all too.

Is that only when it’s set to 4100 or has it always done that lol.

It's always done that, are you familiar with how i-Vtec work compared to regular Vtec?

With i-Vtec, there is an upper and a lower rpm threshold for Vtec to engage. So think of older Vtec Hondas like an EM1 Si or late 90s GS-R Integra, Vtec would kick on at one specific RPM no matter what throttle or manifold pressure, I don't remember the RPM off the top of my head, somewhere around 5500-5800 I believe. With i-Vtec, we can have the lower RPM threshold set low at say 4100 for this conversation. At 4100, if you're at part throttle, the Vtec manifold pressure I set isn't met so Vtec won't engage. There is a set of parameters the ECU has to see at 4100 for it to engage Vtec, if they aren't met, it won't engage it. Then I set the upper threshold at 5500, which no matter what it will engage vtec at 5500 as commanded. This is great because you can have the low RPM Vtec at 4100 when you need it, but if you aren't giving it a lot of throttle it won't kick on, but if you give it near WOT it will engage. The I in i-Vtec stands for intelligent, meaning that it takes a set of met parameters for Vtec to engage. So on your next drive, run up and past 4100 in first gear at part throttle and you will see it won't engage. Then you can even run it up to 5500 at part throttle to hear it engage even at part throttle. That way you don't have to be mindful to shift before 4100 at part throttle, you can rev right past on normal driving and Vtec won't engage.

Hopefully all that made sense, haha.
