Questions about Turbo Pressure Curve

Post by muffler »

I have two questions regarding the Turbo Pressure Curve(TC maximum pressure ratio)

As Civic 1.5T, the [Factory settings] map's TC maximum pressure ratio is as below, we can see the curve from 1500~2550 RPM is smooth

but in the [+6psi] or [+9psi] settings we can see a step here.

My questions are:
1. Why the turbo pressure around 1500~2550 RPM needs to remain almost the same on like +6psi settings, are there any special considerations here?(maybe for better spooling the turbo), since the turbo pressure curve step, driving with this setting will have a huge torque change while stepping on gas for about 75% percent while climbing from 2500RPM to 3500RPM.
2. Why the curve needs to drop a bit after 5550RPM, and why in +9psi settings it starts to drop on 5000RPM, are there any considerations here too? If the curve is flat on the high RPM, will there be any damages or something?

Context is around stock engine and Turbo, Civic FK7 MT China.

Theses two quesions troubled me for a long time, so really appreciate if can get some answers here. 😃
