CVT belt-types with torque limits

Post by RedYung »

Honda CVT is using push-belt type. From the diagram, assuming Honda CVT is using the best belt, which is around 250-260 Nm.
Comparing to LuK chain, from Subaru's CVT can abuse more than 300 Nm.
I'm not sure if it is a good thing to raise the torque limit in the table more than 260 Nm.
Maybe it wont failed immediately, but I think it is the matter of how long it was operating under that amount of torque which reducing its lifespan over the accumulated time + the reduced oil viscosity due to temperature.
