Knock Level

Post by sloth4urluv »

Just recently purchased flashpro for my FK8 and loaded the 93octane with improved throttle response.
Loaded the tune last Friday and when I tested it out. Pulled hard and saw that the boost got up to 26psi.

This morning I took it for a drive and noticed when I put my foot down in 6th I only got up to about 24psi and noticed the car didn't pull as hard.
The weather conditions this morning were around 75F 95%Humidity at sea level. At first I assumed it was related solely to the weather, but when I looked at the data log I saw that the knock level would hit 100%.

Just to be clear where I live premium is 93 and that is only what I fill my car with.
I plan to load the 91 octane fuel & stock equivalent tunes and review the datalogs from it, but I was wondering if this is normal behavior for this car/ECU?
Does the new ECU support the knock count variable or is that no longer used since it doesn't appear in the sensor list?

Also I understand that most of the testing was done out in california, but what is the margin of safety of the 93 octane tune for hot and humid climates? Im assuming the base tunes are fairly conservative.

Can you post your calibration and a datalog showing the issue?

I cant seem to find the one from this morning, I guess I didn't have it recorded this morning and was looking at the wrong log.
I did look at the other data logs and the high knock level was present in them as well.

The calibration I was using was the base 93oct improved throttle response.

The highest knock level (143%) was recorded after I first flashed the car.

you would need to upload the datalog file. it's hard to tell what's going on with a picture

Sorry, could have sworn I uploaded the datalogs in the previous post.
Guess I didn't notice that the .zip file I had was just slightly above 5MB.

Ignore the knock level. It does not show anything useful for tuning or diagnosis.

The most important things to look at in a datalog is the fuel pump, knock retard and intake temperatures.

Your peak fuel pump duty is 93% so that is fine.

For knock one datalog has none. One datalog has 2 degs retard on one cylinder at part throttle for a little while, which is fine, the other datalog has one cylinder with a cylinder retarding 2-4 degs at a couple of places, which is fine. There are no high load pulls to red line so it is not possible to tell what is going on under maximum load.

IATs are different for datalog. In one they are high. One looks medium high and one datalog looks normal. Without knowing the ambient temperature I can't say if this is good or bad.

Thanks for looking into that.
I will try and do a full out run at some point when I can, I just wanted to go through the data logs from the car first and make sure that everything was safe.

Since tuning this car seems radically different from the K20Z3 or F22C I had worked with before figured I should check.

As far as the IAT I am planning on getting an intercooler upgrade. ATM just waiting to see if I should go with the mishimoto one or PRL.

Just wanted to add to this by saying make sure if you live in a state where the fuel can contain up to 10% ethanol that you select the "US normal pump gas" mod.

Just noticed this option the other day and the car runs much better now.
Much more consistent boost pressure and the car feels like it pulls harder.

Its just my opinion but I feel like flashpro should do a better job of advertising this setting.
Maybe include it in the list of base tunes, or better yet after loading a base tune have a window pop up to select which fuel modifier you would like to use (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%).

You need to post actual datalog files as well as the calibration used.
