When Will Honda Update the Stock Basemaps

Post by civ881 »

Hey guys and Hondata,

Ive been researching on this forum as well as other forums and have observed that it is very common for the Stock Tuned and Stock Equivalent tunes to have Heavy knock and I wanted to see if Hondata will actually be doing something about it and updating these two basemaps to correct the high knock count issues?

In our testing stock vehicles do not have knock with those basemaps. We have a stock 06 Si for testing, plus have dyno'd multiple vehicles with those calibrations, and there is not excessive knock.
It is a tunable system. If your vehicle has knock, then either find out why (hot air intake, arco fuel?), or retard the timing.

Thanks Hondata for the prompt reply.
So I take that to mean that NO adjustments, updates or ANYTHING will be made to the current stock basemaps? This should be taken seriously since this involves a product Hondata is selling to the public.

I seem to get high knocks on my 07 at WOT. Completely stock, even tried running 93 Octane instead of the required 91, same thing.

I have been researching this issue for two months before posting and It is a common issue if you guys aren't aware as can be seen at the following link below. You can even just read the link names to see what I'm saying.

there are many more threads and posts about this, that is just a sample.
I am obviously not the only one having this issue as you can see...

OP, all I can say is...good grief. What about all the stock Si's that use the stock tunes that Hondata generously provided and those cars have no knock? Rather than spending months investigating Hondata's apparent neglect, why don't you just tune your car? If, and this is a very big IF, all other things are equal from one tune to the next, the onset of knock could mean your cylinder pressure is higher. If so, tune the ignition accordingly. But more frequently, I would say there are multiple factors (oil contamination and loose bolts being the common ones) that all of a sudden make themselves known (via knock) when a tune is revised. It's not simply the timing maps...this is the nature of tuning a modern engine. With investigation and the proper tool (such as, I don't know, a Hondata Flashpro maybe), a good tuner can find the correlation and address it.
