d16z6 jrsc cold start problem / low rpm / engine stalls

Post by zone_nord »

hello and happy new year!

the car:
del sol
stock d16z6 engine with jackson racing supercharger / 6psi pulley
rc440 injectors
innovate digital MTX-L wideband connected to hondata via D10 ELD
hondata s300
street tuned this summer

when it's cold outside (-5 celsius today) if i start the car the rpm drops very low and the engine stalls. after 2-3 stalls, the rpm starts to rise very slowly and the car runs fine. i only have this issue when it is cold outside, at the first start. open / closed loop makes no difference.

please see the attached log recorded now from my drive from work to home.
~-5 degrees celsius outside

thank you very much
alex

I think it is a combination of things. The RC440 injector doesn't have a great spray pattern. This means a lot of the fuel ends up sticking on the port walls when it is cold. The injector dead times look stock, and probably are a little low.
Since the engine starts fairly quickly, I'd say the cranking pulse is about right. Increase the post start fuel amount (you have already increased it to 30%) and possibly the rate of decay as well.

The lambda doesn't seem to function until the 1:40 mark. You could try switching the ignition on for 2 minutes before starting the engine in order to get a more accurate datalog of the lambda at first.

here is another log with the issue, i waited for the heater light to go off on the lambda gauge before starting
i think my lambda can't handle the low temperatures or has a problem (at engine start)
my tuner tried to tune the car (this summer) with my gauge and lambda and told me that he could not do it with it because it's inaccurate so he used his external device (same brand, innovate). maybe the sensor is bad...

You may want to try contacting Innovate to see if there is some test you can do to determine if the sensor is bad. It is sounding like that may be the issue.

brand new innovate sensor installed, same issue.
also when driving in bad traffic i get an o2 sensor error, if i stop the engine and start it again the error goes away.
i'll post some more logs tomorrow, hope i'll get one when the error pops up.

thanks
