Vacuum question

Post by mdp »

Instead of drilling and tapping the manifold for a vacuum source for my 3-bar map, I could make a fitting and use the original map location on the throttle body. Will this be a decent vacuum source?

It will work, but directly off the manifold is the best way.

You think the throttle body vacuum source is any better than teeing it off of another vacuum line?

I know it's best to take the mani off.....drill and tap....put it back on, but do you think it can be done while it's on the car? I know, I'm lazy! LOL!

There should already be plenty of fittings on the manifold to use.

tip for drilling and tapping the mani without removing it: remove the vac line from the fpr. attach a blow gun into it. while you drill and tap have a buddy apply air pressure through the vac line. the chips will be blown out as you machine the hole (so wear safety glasses!).

golden eagle vac logs work well, too... though they are less than pretty in a clean, stock-looking engine compartment.
