VTEC on all the time!

Post by mkulak »

Hi,

I'm looking at installing a Hondata into a Race Car which has VTEC locked and working 100% of the time. Therefore I thinking of telling Hondata that VTEC is disabled and basically just tuning the Low speed fuel and ignition tables. (Are those the ones used when VTEC is disabled?)

Essentially I am currently doing the same thing with the TEC3 we use oas it only has one table. Does anyone see a problem doing this with the s300?

Please let me know, I'm trying to get my head around the Hondata/Honda ECU as I have been used to full standalones for a long time, but like the Simple and easy approach of the Hondata.

Thanks, Marc

You should not run on just the low cam maps, as they do not have much resolution in the higher RPM range. I would highly suggest using both low and high cam settings and just disable the vtec errors and set a vtec point. This way you can use the low cam maps for the lower rpm range and the high cam for the higher rpm range.

I see your point, but I've been tuning with a 8x8, 12x12 or 16x16 field. The Hondata would give me 20x24 which should be more than enough for a drag car.

What I may do is cover the first 300 rpms on the low map, and switch to the high one for 3000-10000rpm.

Or...

I could set my X Axis like this...

500, 800, 1200, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500, 4000, 4500, 5000, 5500, 6000, 6500, 7000, 7500, 8000, 8500, 9000, 9500, 10000

and just use the one table... What you think??
