Average Timing at MBT?

Post by EGAJohn »

I'm currently taking tuning classes and I've been working on my fuel maps on my racecar with very conservative timing (14* WOT). I'm getting ready to rent a dyno and start turning the car up but I'm not sure what the average timing you see with these engines. I know every setup is different but just a ballpark figure to look out for while tuning MBT would help me alot.
Setup:
B18C1 on E85 (76% ETC)
Stock Head
10:1 pistons
Skunk 2 Rods
ACL Bearings
GTX3076R
Aiming for 450hp

Have you tried looking in the vault for a similar setup, and reviewing the calibration file that is uploaded for that setup?

I can't find anything close. Most are 93 octane.

I see 7 calibrations in the vault when filtering for a turbocharged B18C, with E85 mentioned in the notes. I would start conservative...pull 1 degree of timing per pound of boost. With E85 you may end up closer to 0.5 degrees per pound. Let the dyno guide you...that's the best way to set timing. I'm D-series, so not quite the same, but my ignition compensation for ethanol adds 4.5 degrees @ 85% ethanol content.
