Solid check engine for 30-60sec then ok

Post by Br8crumb »

so straight to the point.... When key is turned to the on position, I get a solid cell from 30-60 seconds, followed by the cel going away and then the main relay clicks and fuel pump primes. if I try to start while solid cell the motor will crank but no fuel so no start. once the motor is started no issues runs and drives fine. I assumed the main ground at thermostat was the issue and the ecu was slow from a poor ground but harness has been pulled/rewired and is not the issue. do not have a obd1 ecu on hand to swap in and test sadly...

Looking at the ecu, both lights go green when the key is first turned to on, followed the 1 green light going out. after 30-60 seconds the red light will flash once, the 2nd green will come back on, and then the car will supply power to main relay and prime the fuel.

1991 honda crx si, full obd1 rywire harness, b18c5, p06 with hondata s300 v3
new ignition harness, new main relay, new fuses under dash/under hood, pulled engine harness and rewired few things + thermostat ground, rewired the sub harness that connects chassis harness to ecu. issue was present prior to these fixes/updates cause old car.

This sounds like a problem with the ECU, and is most likely the capacitors that are going bad. They are more than 25 years old and have a life expectancy of about 10 years. I highly recommend replacing the, and see if that resolves the issue.

Upon closer inspection you sir are correct. Thanks for the link. What's visible is c21 and c24 leaking. Had all caps replaced in 2016 when I had hondata installed so I guess the heat got to them. Will be replacing all 8 when they arrive
