b16a interminttent lean at idle

Post by Skeet5204 »

i have a 1994 civic si with a b16a turbo... this car ran great for two years and all of the sudden it went from a constant 14.7 afr @idle to 16+ witch causes popping and sometimes the car dies... i have tried new map, fuel pump, filter, ect, iat. for the most part the car does not run right but every once in a while it runs great. i noticed when i put a electrical load( headlights)ect it will change the afr to almost where it needs to be but then leans out again after a few min.

Has any1 ever seen injectors cause a intermittent lean idle??? Should i send them off to be cleaned and flow tested??

spark plugs? distributor loose? maybe a ground somewhere if changing electrical alters it? But I would also send the injectors to get them tested if all else fails.

It sounds like you have the wrong dead times for the injectors you are using.

Watch your AFR and voltage while you induce electrical load and see if they are related. Maybe alternator is getting weak so your voltage is dropping lower than it has before with load, causing your injector dead times to read from a different parameter than normal.
