K-Pro V4 / S2000 Misfire Problem

Post by sander »

Hello,

I've got an AP1 S2000 with a brand new K-Pro V4. It seems to encounter a rev-limiter type symptom above 7500 rpm, while the over-all limiter is set to 8400 rpm.

Attached is a log, the calibration file, and the dyno plot.

-The engine has stock S2000 plugs.
-Have tried new coils.
-Have tried new plugs.
-Have tried gapping the plugs down to 0.030"
-Also tried reducing coil dwell angle above 6000 (no effect)
-All of the suggested items to convert the engine over to K-Pro have been completed (sensors, and trigger wheels)

The log shows no break in injector pulse during the "rev-limit" scenario, so it is unlikely that the ECU is doing anything to limit the engine speed (if I remember correctly, reading in the help manual there are only fuel cuts in K-Pro).

Is there a data value to log the engine sync?

It should be noted that this is a race car (and one with a number of years racing in Honda Challenge), and could possibly suffer from race car related vibrations of the factory engine harness (or other items).

Any feedback would be welcome. (The engine mapping isn't 100% finished, so please bear that in mind).

What has been done to the fuel system? What is the fuel pressure doing when this happens?

Also please give us a datalog and the calibration.

The injector pulse plot follows the torque curve rather closely (probably indicating that there is a relatively steady fuel pressure plot), and the lambda measurement (taken from the header) beneath the dyno chart is quite steady at 0.87.

I feel that it's unlikely this is a fuel related issue.

There should be a log and calibration in the original post.

Sorry, I missed the datalog from the first post.
Injector duration is steady at around 11 ms when the rpm drops, so it is not the ECU rev limiting. Battery voltage is quite low (12.3V) at the 1000 rpm idle, so something is not right in the charging system.
Doesn't look like a fuel problem. I'd reset everything is the calibration (like the ignition dwell) and see if the problem changes.

Hi Everyone,

The customer contacted me today and said that the engine had a bottom end failure due to lack of oil pressure. We are assuming at this point that the cause was due to an oil pressure supply problem not being able to keep the engine in VTEC.

Thank you for your help, anyway.
