Question about Throttle Dampening

Post by Solarmute »

I'm in a 2017 MT EX-T Civic Coupe using the stock Carb +6PSI map and I LOVE what it does to the 2000+rmp performance in the higher gears. I would like just a touch more power/smoother throttle response when starting from a stop and was wondering if unchecking the Throttle Dampening option might help in that regard?

I was also wondering if this was a "safe" adjustment to make when using the stock carb maps. In googling the issue I found a post from one of the Hondata people saying that playing with throttle settings can create "jerks" due to the ECU trying to learn and adjust with the fuel mappings, but I might have taken the comment out of context? (Relative newb car guy, so please forgive the ignorance.)

My wife also has a 2017 MT Civic, but she's got the Hatch. I've always noticed that her car has a bit more power in first gear than mine. It's not a night and day difference, but it's noticeable. This is the level of power from a stop that I'd like to achieve. Nothing crazy, just something a little less lethargic feeling. I'm wondering if the throttle dampening could help or if that is a different matter entirely.

I've also noticed a small "hitch" that often happens when engaging first gear. It almost feels like a tiny clutch slip towards the end of its engagement. I read that the throttle dampening can create a small hitch where the dampening is stopped and the throttle suddenly opens quicker. (Again, I might not be understanding the context of the statement I read.) Just wondering if unchecking the throttle dampening might smooth out the engagement in first gear?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts. Cheers all.

Thanks for the reply Spunkster. Quickly, any thoughts on the safety question? Is this risky beyond the norm or a relative safe variable to test? Cheers.

There is nothing unsafe about trying this.
