Hondata Mode not working in 3.2.9

Post by nappco » Thu Apr 04, 2019 4:45 am

I recently updated from 3.1.0 (July 2018) to 3.2.6, then 3.2.8, then 3.2.9. I did this to take advantage of Honda's oil dilution issue as I live in a cold state.

After the reflash the Hondata mode is not working with the +6 PIS tune. I returned the ECU to stock and there is no difference in performance. Any Thoughts?

I did not try the +3, or +9

Also, there was a +7 boost in 3.1.0 that is no longer available?

FlashPro Civic 2016+ Turbo 1.5 US (CARB)
FP-16CIVIC-L15T-US-CARB
SN ? (Don't have it with me)
2018 Hatch, Sport MT
no other mods

I don't have a data log but did nothing to the original +6 3.1.0 tune, or the new +6 3.2.9 tune. I can create one if needed... just didn't have time last night.

I had the same issue. I flashed it back to stock for the moment because I like to be able to drive on stock boost levels. I started a thread stating this about a month ago and no one replied to it. I guess I am not alone though. Hoping this issue is fixed soon.

asgroi9399 are you MT or CVT?

Can you gives us some datalogs with it on and off?

I will try and get some logs. In the meantime, can we go back to an older version of firmware?

The short answer is no. Firmware generally refers to the FlashPro firmware, which does not affect the ECU. I think what you mean is the ECU binary; all of them are post oil dilution and we can't go back.

I made a few runs, the last 0005 was traction control off and it spun in 1st and 2nd. The things we do for science. Hope the clutch and trans holds up.

By the seat of the pants dyno I think the difference is really felt in the higher gears, 4-6. With the previous +6psi tunes from last summer I could leave the car in six, push down the gas and in a flash I could jump 10-20mph on the highway. Now its doggy. Secondly, I could feel the car surge as the boost would increase, now it feels like stock.

Run 4 was in econ mode. All others econ off (in Hondata mode).

I don't know enough about the stock tune, or boost to make any assumptions.

Finally, this was run with the latest tune, 3.3.1.0

also, run 2 has highway speeds in 6th. I see the boost peaks out at 17psi.

Thanks and let me know if this is typical and what changed from 3.1.0.

MT... I will try and get some data logs this weekend on +6 psi and upload them.

Comparing #4 and #3 I can see more boost in # when Econ is turned off.

Right. But when I'm in Hondata mode and rolling on the gas in 4-6 there is only about 16-17 PIS of boost. Honda claims the factory boost level in a Civic sport hatch is ~16 PSI. I don't have any original tunes, but there was a big difference before and after.

Spunkster, take a look at datalog 2 around 45 seconds into the run. I was on the highway in 6th and when I put the pedal down the boost reached ~16 PSI, peaking at 17 PSI. I think this is where something is wrong. Yes, it looks like in lower gears the boost is over 20 PSI which I suppose sounds about right for the Sport Hatch MT but with no old logs I cannot validate this. Can we check some old logs that others might have sent along and compare something from last summer (3.1.X)

Honda's claims are not accurate.

Remember that the ECU works from driving force so that boost will be lower if the IAT is lower or the knock control is lower.

yes,
So, what has the absolute control over boost? Spark timing, fuel, cams, boost by gear, traction control?

Something changed from 3.1.X to today? Is it the boost by gear limiting the total boost? There are few variables with the CARB version to consider. so what is it?
