Car is knocking badddd!

Post by Teamdiesel »

I have just finished my build and used a map from my last setup (which is similar to this one) to run the car until the tuner arrives next month. The setup is as follows:
85.5mmx92mm GSR block
Fully race ported RLZ GSR head (chambers opened to 85mm)
12.5:1 cr
Skunk2 stage2 cams (tuner series)
Skunk2 header
Skunk2 70mm exhaust
VictorX IM
RC 550cc injectors
NGK #7 plugs
Skunk Pro cam gears
Supertech valvetrain
Hondata S300
AEM wideband
AEM CAI

A few other things but you get the point. My problem now is that the engine is audibly knocking bad between 2000-4500 rpms (haven't carried it past 4500 since startup last week). I use 89-92 octane pump gas (only type available :() and this happens mostly when I give 45% throttle going up hills or when I am in a high gear and press down. I would appreciate some help as this is my only transport at the moment.

Remove timing from the problem area and get the car tuned on the dyno ASAP.

I have taken out up to 4 degrees and it still knocks slightly in 4th going up hill. Should I take out more or is there a downside to taking out too much timing in the lower regions?

Any detonation is bad, keep removing timing until it is gone. You really should get this dyno tuned to run safely.

with a setup like that id be towing it to a tuner... the price you'd pay to ensure the longevity of your motor is insignificant in comparison to the price you paid for the parts.
