S300 V1 memory chip swap

Post by h1tman »

Hello,
I have an damaged S300 V1 (r7) witch has been damaged in car crash. The U4 45DB161B chip is busted.
It is a Flash memory for onboard dataloging i presume. Can it be replaced with bigger 4MB AT45DB321E chip or even the 8MB version (AT45DB641E)? Will SManager see the extra capacity or i have to use the oryginal 45DB161B chip which have 2MB?

I do not recommend trying to replace this yourself, and if you do try it would have to be done with the exact same chip. Good luck.

Hello, in that case i will use the same chip. I also noticed that c3 cap near CN2 connectiin is damaged. Could you tell what value is it?

I would recommend that you upgrade to the new version 3 s300 instead of trying to repair this damaged one. Even we do not repair damaged boards as it is to time consuming and in most cases will still not work.

Details on upgrading can be found at: https://www.hondata.com/downloads/s300v ... e_form.pdf

I am aware of the replacement procedure but i have no money for that besides i am electronic engineer and replacing few components isn`t a big of a deal to me. Fixing it is more fun. BTW C3 is 33nF - found in FT245BM datasheet :)

Hi, I'm just curious if you had any luck with replacing the chip and have a working board again? My s300's memory recently decided to shit the bed and I was digging into why and how it could be fixed. I'm planning to upgrade but I still like the knowledge.

the component referred to above is not the same one that commonly fails in the v1 boards.

Hello,
You have to replace the big memory chip with HONDATA sticker.
I have used DS1230Y-120+ and it is working fine.

Best regards
