Error code 15 Ignition output

Post by 300whpcrx »

I have a b18c1 in a CRX that has been throwing code 15 since the rebuild. So far I have swapped out the distributor and had the ECU tested. The car will start up perfect and idle fine but once you begin to drive it at anything other than a very cautious pace It will turn off completely and throw the code 15. The car has a chase bays harness and we have double checked the wiring at the distributor to the ecu. Our next step will to be making a jumper harness from the distributor to the ecu circumventing the harness altogether. An help/ tips / info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!

Try the ECU in a known working vehicle. If the problem goes away you will know that it is the wiring in the vehicle causing the issue.

I'll say it again. code 15 is almost always the ignition switch. the 1% of the time it isn't the ignition switch, it's usually a bad ground.
I have NEVER seen a code 15 be ecu related.

Wouldn't the dash lights and the entire car turn off if the ignition just shut off? the engine will just die if revved any where other than a babied throttle. Not trying to argue i'm open to any solution at this point. Thanks for all your help so far guys!

you would think thats the case but it usually isn't.
I rarely recommend throwing parts at a car without full diagnostics, but this is a rare exception. I suggest just getting a new ignition switch. 99% chance it will fix it

I took the car around the block and the same thing happened. You can drive it and it idles just fine but as soon as you tip on the accelerator while driving it just dies. Thanks for the help so far its killing me not being able to drive it.

What is the part number of the ECU you are using?

Its a p28 with hondata s300. I can pull the ecu and check the actual number if that is more helpful. I had pure tuning bench test it and he said it was ok. I was thinking of emailing hondata and having them inspect it.

I pulled the ECU from the vehicle there is no sticker like i hoped with a part number.

The only numbers on the ecu are written in either paint marker (p0151)
on the circuit board 02d011f0-1500 a8y-e

I painted the cover when I was a young ricer boy and may have taken off the part number.
The ecu was just recently sent to hondata for an upgrade if that helps at all.
