CAMCMD reads 0 but map says otherwise

Post by akep »

In the attached datalog you can see the first 2.5 minutes the cam angles are doing as intended, then in 2:50.5 the VSS and CAM blip and go to 0, then immediately after the same thing happens (we are troubleshooting, the car has suddenly started falling on its face like lean/boost cut, also artifacts of laggy computer) - but after that the rest of the cam/camcmd graph stays 0, although the map clearly indicates it should do something.

any ideas? also why is CAM so jittery?

The first indication of a problem is at 1:09. That's an indication that there is a mechanical or electrical control problem. eg VTC solenoid, VTC, oil pressure, VTC filter, grounds.

yep we found a part of the harness was not secured and it rubbed through a wire on the water neck and it was shorting, causing the ecu to reset. When moving the throttle body we found it would hiccup and as we tugged on the harness it was priming the fuel pump over and over again. wrapped it and secured it and no more cutting out, vtc signal looks better but still some noise.
